Georgia Marie Wilcott was born in Greenville, Texas on July 2, 1924 to the parentage of the late Edward and Beanna Wilson.
Marie departed this life Saturday, May 7, 2022 at her home in Kaufman, Texas surrounded by her loved ones.
She was married to the late William Sherman Wilcott, Sr. in Terrell, Texas. From this union eight children were born. Although neither parent had the opportunity to graduate from high school, they strongly encouraged their children to get educated. Afterall of their children received a good education, Marie went back to school and obtained her GED.
Marie was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Lone Star Baptist Church until God called her home. She was a Sunday School Teacher, an Usher, served on various committees in the church and was a long time member of the Heroines of Jericho. Church and the church family was a major part of her life.
Cooking was one of Marie’s passions; especially baking cakes and sweet potato pies. Whether on a kerosene, wood or gas stove, she always put love in her meals. After many years she retired from TISD’s food service department.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, William Sherman Wilcott, Sr., son, Rev. Bruce Wayne Wilcott, daughter, Velma Wilcott Hudson RN, brother, Edward Wilson, Jr., three sisters, Essie Brown, Leana Brooks and Lois Nickerson; one son-in-law, Richard Bassett and two grandsons, Laroy Bassett and Braylon Wilcott.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Johnnie Bassett RN of Allen, Texas: Thelma Wilcott of Arlington, Texas; Linda Wilcott Rodriguez (Steven) of Arlington, Texas; three sons: Raymond Adkins of Terrell, Texas; William Wilcott, Jr. of Arlington, Texas; Dr. Robert J. Wilcott (Kathleen) of Sherman, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary A. Wilcots of Dallas, Texas; family members in heart: Rev. Clifford Carter of Sagemore Hills, Ohio; Robert Yanas of Arlington, Texas; Evelyn Jackson of Kaufman, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
