Sis. Jeanne Wilcots Brooks

Saturday, April 15, 2023, will forever be a day of somber remembrance for the family of Jeanne Elizabeth Wilcots Brooks when she passed from earthly labor to heavenly reward. 

Jeanne was born September 2, 1934, the second child of J.B. and Laura Steele Wilcots in Terrell, Texas. She was smart, quiet, unassuming and learned to play the piano at an early age. This musical ability was evident and utilized for more than 75 years before she officially retired as the pianist and choir director for Lone Star Baptist Church in Kaufman, Texas. She also served as the pianist for Mt. Calvary and Mt. Moriah Baptist churches in Terrell, TX. Jeanne attended the Post Oak Bend School on the grounds of Lone Star Baptist Church and graduated from Burnett High School in Terrell, TX.  Her musical powers shown here, as she penned the lyrics for “Oh Burnett High” as her class song, which later became the school song.  In addition to her work at the church, Jeanne’s employment included Franklin’s dress shop in Terrell, Texas; Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas (retiring after 30 years); and finally retiring from the city of Terrell in the Mayor’s Office. Jeanne was also a long-time member of the 22 Marechal Niel Club in Terrell, TX.

She was joined in holy matrimony on August 6, 1960 to Elbert Brooks and to this union 2 sons were born. Jeanne is survived by her husband; sons Elbert Kyle and Ivan Gregory (Nikki); one granddaughter, Alicia; 3 sisters, Mrs. Cora Clay, Rockwall, TX; Mrs. Helen Shaw, Garland, TX; Dr. Donna Dabney, Hampton, VA; her only brother, Early Douglas Wilcots, Fairview, TX; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Joyfully welcoming Jeanne to her new home with her Savior are her parents, J.B. and Laura Wilcots; her sisters, Mary Frances Wilcots and Birdie Mae Wilcots Gaddis; and precious baby brother, David Norris Wilcots.
